Circulators for ponds and lakes imageKasco Water Circulators have been used with great success for waterfowl hunting as well. Many waterfowl hunting seasons are cut short due to cold weather and freezing water. However, a Kasco Water Circulator can be used to keep the water open and extend your season and attract birds to your location. Since most hunting blinds do not include electricity, most hunters who use Kasco Water Circulators will operate the unit with a generator before sunlight to open the area. Then before shooting hours, will turn the generator off to avoid spooking the ducks and geese.

Kasco Water Circulators are great tools to limit the negative effects of Spring and Fall turnover. Ponds in geographic areas that see large temperature swings between Winter and Summer often have Spring and Fall turnover. Spring and Fall turnover occurs when deep, stratified (large temperature differential between surface and bottom water separated by a thin layer of water called a Thermocline) water "turns over".
Circulators image In Spring, the surface water is heated by the sun to about 39 degrees and becomes more dense than the colder, de-oxygenated bottom water. When the warm surface water becomes too dense for the colder water to support, the pond water will turn over and have the colder water on the surface. This causes the de-oxygenated water to mix with the oxygenated surface water and cause an overall lower oxygen level. When large numbers of fish are present, oxygen levels can become low enough for a fish die off to occur. In Fall, the exact opposite occurs. The surface water is cooled by cooler nighttime periods and when the surface water is around 50 degrees, the pond again turns over. lake Circulators in actionKasco Water Circulators can be angled downward to destratify ponds to about 18' in depth. By destratifying the water, Kasco Water Circulators move cooler de-oxygenated water from the bottom to the surface where the water can be warmed and oxygen diffused through the air-water interface causing the elimination of the thermocline and large temperature differential and increasing oxygen levels throughout the entire water column and improve your lake or pond aeration.

Examples of Typical Applications

Typical applications include commercial aquaculture, agricultural ponds, industrial plants, municipal waste water and backyard ponds. These units are typically selected for surface aeration when a decorative fountain pattern is neither necessary nor desired.

Auburn University has performed independent product tests and has found that Kasco's aerators’ SAE (Standard Aeration Efficiency) is at least 3.0 lbs. of oxygen per horsepower per hour of operation, making them some of the most efficient and effective units available.

All Kasco pond aerators are self-contained, lightweight units that float at the surface with a single power cord returning to shore and two or three mooring lines anchoring the unit. The units are easily installed and maintained by a single person and have proven to be an excellent choice for both continuous duty pond or lake aeration and supplemental aeration for unique applications.

Learn About Bottom Aerators

During the summer months, when water is warm, oxygen can be consumed faster than it can be replenished.  Lakes can become "stratified"; the warmer, oxygen-rich upper water laying on  top of the cool, more dense, lower oxygen deeper water.

Such conditions inhibit levels of beneficial bacteria and their breakdown of organics.
Bottom muck accumulation increaded and excessive nutrients are readily available for
plant/algae growth.  This thermal stratification also makes conditions favorable for the
production of noxious ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gases.

Vertex bottom aeration systems create a vertical current using the rising force of millions of small bubbles to entrain the water column, "turning the lake over" and allowing oxygen to be absorbed at the lake's surface.

By moving the lower-oxygen water up from the bottom and eliminating thermal stratification, oxygen levels throughout the water column are increased.  Wide swings in oxygen are stabilized, preventing fish kills.  Our systems are also made to improve sport fisheries by allowing fish to expand their territory into formerly oxygen-deprived portions of the lake.
